    I see some people wanting to use this as a volume control, I don’t think it’s going to work directly replacing it. Volume knob is a potentiometer (pot, or variable resistor) this one is digital (and it rotates endlessly), meaning you have to convert the signal. But I’m not 100% sure so check before you get one if this is your application.

    I just happened across this video as I was having a thought. Potentiometer knobs used in midi devices can switch between different targets, and because they are finite will not update their position to the new target's value until they have rotated to the point where they "pick up" the new value. Encoders are super because they can immediately update to the new value. Would there be a way to use a chip such as this, where the led feedback is synced to information from a DAW, but with a pot instead of an encoder? Basically, it would be able to quickly show where you need to rotate a finite pot to to "pick up" the data value coming from a new target.

      On Sparkfun you can find the schematic: www.sparkfun.com/products/retired/10408 You could create your own version with KiCad or other CAD programs very fast. But for higher current LEDs you need a bigger voltage regulator. For example, if you want 10 mA per LED, this is 160 mA. If you use a 2 V voltage regulator with 5 V input, it needs to dissipate 0.48 W. With a LP5951 voltage regulator, same size as you can see on the board, only 150 mA is allowed, and it would heat up to over 100°C. But might be not a problem, modern LEDs are really bright with much less current, like 2 mA. But then you don't need the voltage regulator at all, because the TLC5925 can handle 5V and 3.3V input and wouldn't even get warm.

    Hehe this would make a nice digital lock like those on safes.. turn 10 right, 20 left, 4 right ..etc ;) now here instead turn 4 right then press down, 8 left press down, 4 left again (hehe) press down.. can make some crazy combinations with this thing.

      Нууу 1) Слово в кавычках, а не за ними. 2) Слово в кавычках читается как цитата, не больше. 3) А букв Р была тоже вынесена в кавычки. Тем самым, я подчеркнул что слово РОССИЯ пишется с большой буквы а не с маленькой. И ВООБЩЕ, Я ЧЁ ВАСЯ ОБЪЯСНЯЛКИН? Я не кого не тыкаю в орфографию и право писание, и будьте добры меня тоже не тыкайте.

    Yikes a million views, all because it looks like an arc reactor. In fact it's one of the most basic designs that any first year electrical engineer will design. A shift register driving LEDs. It's not even using a real LED driver, so the LEDs are on continuously, which means inefficient power usage will suck up battery life. If people want to create nice light shows, check out the digital LED strips they sell on ebay for $18. They use real LED drivers, which means more efficient use of power, and you usually get about 60 addressable LEDs.

    • @Ne3s23p2
      @Ne3s23p2 6 років тому

      A decent design should nowadays provide such power-saving LED dimming, and manage the rotary encoder, providing over the SPI interface a buffered counter of pulses, and an open-drain interrupt line.

      Switching drivers may be a little more efficient. But using them with cameras is a pain.
